Believing that birthday celebrations have pagan roots - isn´t that a prejudice?
To not celebrate anyones birthday - isn´t that superstisious?
i cannot take credit for any of the gems below but i did want to polish and organize them.
much of the information was borrowed from this thread.
if you can come up with any more, please post them.. the bible does not ban birthdays.

wt dec-2014 page4: "a bulgarian woman named irana rigthly observed, -it is not posspible to be close to god if you don t know his name.
".
if so many know his name, why this debate "jehovah vs yahweh" then?.

i remember being a pioneer and telling people how stupid they were for believing in a "burning hell.".
the analogy they told us to use was..... "if you had a small child and they were bad could you take that child and put it's hand over a flame and burn it's flesh and hold his hand there....dispite his screams and his pain?".
of course the answer was always...."no".
Have the watchtower believed in a burning Hell any time in their history?
the unknown writer of the gospel of john put the following words in jesus' mouth, "blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.".
persuading countless generations that it is a virtue to believe incredible things on insufficient evidence, is one of religion's cleverest tricks.. the more incredible the claim; the more flimsy the evidence; the stronger the belief; the greater the virtue.. this is the exact opposite of how we operate in every other aspect of our lives.. rational people must demand objective evidence for everything they are asked to believe.
"extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence".. leaving the dogmatic claims of the watchtower is only a first step.
I agree that living a evidence-based life works. Faith seems to have created millions of brain-washed people during the centuries. For me, I like to not bind myself to anything that is uncertain. If someone 500 years ago claimed that colors are illusions of mind, what appears as colors actually does not exist external, that the brain creates these "colors" through interpreting the wavelengths of light that reach the eyes, I guess that people around would see that person as wicked. And even today people believes that colors are an external reality.

Maybe people around me (assuming that they actually exist) can conclude my existence, my intellect (assuming that my intellect is for real) has no idea. Is pain a proof/evidence of anything? Maybe, maybe not. It feels real, but how shall my assuming intellect know?

I can honesty say, with confidence, that I have found zero evidences of the possible existence of myself. It appears that I exist, but if I claim that I know that I exist, that would be very arrogant of me, because so far, my so called "evidences" of my existence, are based on what I believe is true. If the truth is beyond what I believe, then I may have a problem, if I exist.
this is an adaptation of my commentary for my wife on one of the propaganda articles still published on the official wt website.. i think they are a good set of articles to refer to when discussing the sept 2007 okm qfr and jws cultish behaviour in general.. .
cheers.

i m a little curious because i have hard to see that every single person has the interest to stand up and sing in the beginning and in the end of every meeting...... what will happen if you are interested in the so called truth, not to stand up and sing a song against your will?!
then, is it okay to sit down like normal when everybody else copy each other (stand up an sing a certain text/song) as parrots?.
Hmmm...okay. If someone visiting a meeting and in advance, before the meeting begins, tell people there that "I am interested in the Truth, but I have zero interest in standing up and sing, so I will remain sitting when others sing. I hope you respect my will".
Will they try to stop you to take part or how do they handle a situation like that?

i was raised a jw and i am still one but recently i have been having trouble believing in a god.
this is not meant to offend anyone who does, i am just curious to see if i am the only one who thinks this..... to start, i am a very black and white person.
if 1+1=2 it makes sense to me and i can agree with it.
How is it possible to be sure of anything (in God for example) if I am unsure of my existence in the first place? Memories, so called evidences and personal experiences, are they all illusions? I don´t´KNOW. All I´m doing (if I exist) is guessing.
